Sound the Alarm Smoke Alarm Install Event
Saturday, October 11 - 10 am to 3 pm

October 5 – 11, 2025, is Fire Prevention Week! And we are doing a special Anchorage Sound the Alarm installation event in conjunction with the Anchorage Fire Department. We focus on a neighborhood for Smoke Alarm installations at this time, and this program is completely free for the residents and focuses on home fire safety. In addition to traditional smoke alarms, we also have strobe and bed shaker alarms for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing. We are asking for members of the community to come and help Red Cross staff and volunteers with canvassing homes and offer free smoke alarms, and help with installations and present home fire escape plans.

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, we will be focusing on Malaspina Mobile Home Park, located in East Anchorage, very close to Costco on DeBarr Rd. The install event is on October 11th from 10 a.m. to 3:30 pm. We will be meeting at the Anchorage Fire Department Training Center for check-in before heading to Malaspina for installs.

This is a great event to involve community partners, co-workers, and friends. Community members can come out and help with any aspect of this event, with no continued commitment to the Red Cross. Prospective volunteers can trial being a Red Cross volunteer before committing.

Age Requirements: Children 15 and under can help with supplies, canvasing, Sound the Alarm Event set up, or clean up on Oct. 11th with their parent/guardian. 16 and older can help in any way.

Skills or Qualifications Needed: There is an orientation for how to do a Sound the Alarm event at the beginning of the event! Should be able to walk around neighborhood, and may need to use a stepladder and tools to install.

To sign up, contact Cameron Morrison with the Red Cross of Alaska at cameron.morrison@redcross.org.
