The annual Bowl-A-Thon is the fundraiser and financial backbone of our Military Appreciation Week and takes place the first Saturday in February at Center Bowl. Local businesses purchase lanes for the event and spend an afternoon with some of our local service members. Sponsors have the option of donating bowling spaces to service members and/or sending employees to bowl. Participants will have numerous opportunities to mingle with military personnel and help the military and Anchorage business communities connect.
The Anchorage ATHENA Society is a program of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce that works year-round to encourage the potential of all women as valued members and leaders of the business community. The group has grown to almost 300 women and works to raise scholarship funds for high school girls to attend camps where they learn leadership skills and gain business expertise.
Each March, new members are inducted into the society at the Anchorage ATHENA Society Luncheon which honors women business leaders. More than 400 people attend the luncheon each year and hear from many inspiring women from the Anchorage community.
Since 1958, the Anchorage Chamber has helped preserve the cleanliness and beauty of its city through the Citywide Cleanup. Thousands of volunteers come together to collect millions of pounds of trash and dispose of it at local landfill stations. This week-long event is a great opportunity for member businesses of the Anchorage Chamber to pitch in and show the beauty of Anchorage to our residents and visitors prior to the busy spring and summer season.
Citywide Cleanup brings together nearly 400 local businesses, organizations, schools, and citizens of the Municipality of Anchorage. Many businesses allow employees time to collect trash around their business and some end the event with a company get together making for a great team building and corporate responsibility event.
The 2019 Citywide Cleanup Week will be April 27 through May 4.
The Anchorage Chamber's Super Sweeper program helps teach school-aged kids the value of a clean city and community service. The event is Anchorage School District’s way of getting involved in Citywide Cleanup. Nearly 80 schools participate in order to teach students stewardship and the value of keeping our city clean.
This program kicks off the Anchorage Chamber's Citywide Cleanup Week and motivates the rest of Anchorage to participate in Cleanup Week. Starting at 10 A.M., parents assist their children in picking up trash around their schools and neighborhoods, returning the full bags of trash to the school before 2 P.M. Every student from each school who collects trash is eligible to win a $50 Fred Meyer gift card.
