Fourth Avenue

Fourth Avenue is the core of the downtown tourist district, home to gift stores and many local attractions. Anchorage is known as the "City of Lights and Flowers," and nowhere is this best demonstrated than Fourth Avenue. In the summer, hanging baskets trailing sapphire lobelia and gold triploid marigolds line the sidewalks. The blue and gold flowers are the colors of the Municipality of Anchorage and the State of Alaska. Fourth Avenue is also part of the Downtown Anchorage self-guided Walking Tour, which is posted throughout the area. Fourth Avenue is also the start of the infamous Iditarod Dog Sled Race, which runs from Anchorage to Nome and is held every February.
