Citywide Cleanup FAQs

Each year, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce Citywide Cleanup program brings the business community, local schools and Anchorage residents together to help beautify the nation's 66th largest city. When is next year's Anchorage Chamber Citywide Cleanup Week?
May 2011

 

What areas of town can we pick up trash?
Any, but the primary focus of the program is to rid Anchorage streets and roadways of debris. Sign up to cleanup here.


Are there any areas off limits?
Please be aware of private property boundaries and ask permission to clean in these areas.


When and where can I pick up orange trash bags?

Bags are available at the Anchorage Chamber office.

How many orange bags can I have?
The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce recommend two (2) bags per person cleaning.
 

What should I do with chemicals that I find?
Most “chemicals” can be taken by the SWS Hazardous Waste Facility, in 40 lb limits any time during the year.  Visit
www.muni.org/sws and look up the “How Do I Dispose Of” section for more information.

 

What is the Clean Sweep Celebration?
A free community event held at the end of Citywide Cleanup Week at the Delaney Park Strip to honor and celebrate all of our “Cleanup Heroes.”

What is the "
Super Sweepers" program about?

It is a portion of the Citywide Cleanup program designed to engage school-aged children.

 

What are "free dump days"?
For three days through Citywide Cleanup Week, covered residential loads can be dumped at no charge. You can avoid the lines by bringing your trash in Citywide Cleanup Bags (orange) during the week. Orange bags are accepted free of charge all week.


Where can I go to dump trash for free?
The Anchorage Regional Landfill, Girdwood Transfer Station and Anchorage Transfer Station (see
Free Dump Days)


Can I use my own trash bags?
Only on Free Dump Days

Will the trash collected in my neighborhood be picked up?
All participants in the Anchorage Chamber CItywide Cleanup program are responsible for transporting their collected trash to Solid Waste Services via the Anchorage Regional Landfill or Transfer Station.
