Bring your cash, travelers checks and plastic
because there are plenty of shopping and dining
opportunities available in Anchorage. Many stores
throughout the city feature unique "Made in
Alaska" labeled handcrafted products.
There are also several malls with locally owned
specialty stores as well as national chains
including J.C. Penney, Nordstrom, The Gap,
The Bodyshop, and Eddie Bauer. Anchorage
also has two Wal-Marts, Costco Wholesalers
and SAMs Clubs.
Most supermarkets are conveniently open
24-hours-a-day and have a variety of fresh produce
and all the normal grocery fare. Anchorage is home
to nine Carrs-Safeway stores and two New
Sagaya markets. New Sagaya is a specialty
gourmet store.
There are several supermarkets around town that
offer fast food items to go including fresh-made
sandwiches, Chinese food, salad bars, and sushi
bars.

Fine dining in the downtown area is available in
most of the hotels as well at the following
restaurants: Corsair Restaurant, Crows Nest,
Josephines, Marx Bros. Cafe, Simon and Seaforts
Saloon and Grill, and Ristorante Orso. In
midtown, youll find Jens Restaurant, and
restaurant options inside the Regal Alaskan
Hotel.
For a less formal feel, Applebees, Outback
Steakhouse, La Mex, Downtown Deli, Crème de
la Crème, F Street Station, Gesines, OBradys,
Humpys, Kodiak Cafe, and Diannes
Restaurant all fit the bill, offering freshly
prepared food in a number of different styles.
If casual is what you want, Anchorage has what
youre looking for. Most national chains have at
least one location in Anchorage including: Red
Robin, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Subway, Taco Bell,
and Burger King.
If freshly brewed beer whets your palate, try
these locally owned breweries: Glacier BrewHouse
and Snow Goose Restaurant & Sleeping Lady
Brewery.
Anchorage also has a large selection of exotic
fare including Cuban, Thai, Vietnamese,
Mediterranean, Indian, Japanese, Greek and much
more.
